The Rappahannock Association for Arts and the Community
November 7-8, 2009: Fifth Annual ARTISTS OF RAPPAHANNOCK STUDIO & GALLERY TOUR – With the magnificent beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the lush fields flourishing in autumn’s colors, the perfect setting is provided for the talented Rappahannock artists to once again showcase their myriad talents.
The Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community (RAAC) presents the Artists of Rappahannock Studio & Gallery Tour, November 7 and 8, 2009, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., rain or shine. Artists participating in the juried festival will display their artwork either in their own studios or in a gallery setting at one of the many professional galleries in the historic villages of Washington, Sperryville, Amissville, and Flint Hill. Seven galleries and 17 studios will be awaiting your visit, providing a variety of different media.
Visitors will pick up a descriptive map at the Fire Hall in Washington to guide them through the tour. The Fire Hall itself will be transformed into a “mini-gallery” to provide a preview of what can be seen. Visitors then visit the galleries and open studios. Local retail shops, restaurants, and inns will display brochures on the many recreational amenities available in the County, including a variety of award-winning wineries.
Festival planners invite visitors to come for the day or a weekend stay.

Christmas in ‘Little’ Washington Festival & Holiday Parade
Sunday, December 6, 2009
10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.; parade at 1:00 p.m.
In a setting reminiscent of Currier & Ives, historic Washington, Virginia, welcomes the holiday season with its annual “Christmas in ‘Little’ Washington Festival & Holiday Parade,” Sunday, December 6, 2009 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with events and festivities throughout the town.
An Artisans Market opens the celebration at 10:00 a.m., with approximately 30 local artists, craftsmen, specialty food and wine vendors displaying their wares – perfect for holiday shopping! Food vendors, including the famous Etlan Bar-be-que, will have booths.
The Holiday Parade steps off at 1:00 p.m., complete with bagpipers, the Rappahannock High School Band, the Waggin’ Hearts Therapy Dogs, carolers, Santa, and many others to surprise and delight the entire family.
Santa will be on hand to make his Christmas list as he hears the wishes of children whispered in his ear. Kids (and kids at heart) can also have their pictures taken with Santa’s canine helpers, the Waggin’ Hearts Therapy Dogs dressed in their holiday finest.
Everyone loves a great magic show and we are fortunate to have Turley the Magician with us to make us believe the impossible. Turley is a world-renowned magician who has performed at the White House in the “other Washington,” among other prestigious venues.
There will be a choral concert and other holiday festivities, including free open houses with refreshments at several local businesses. Events conclude at 4:00 p.m.
Come early and enjoy this full day of family fun – maps and other information will be available at well-marked locations throughout the town. Free street parking will be available in designated areas. In case of rain, the parade will be cancelled; all other festivities are held indoors or under shelter. For more information, contact Denise Chandler at: 540-522-0188.
